My name is Niki and I’m a Texas girl. So you know what that means?
I love food!
I was always kind of a chunky kid. I was the cute chunky though.
No one would have looked at me and say “she has a weight problem.”
But as I grew up, I just started gaining a lot more weight. My friends continued to play soccer and I just sat on the sidelines and kind of watched them.
I love food. I was addicted, to it. Food was my comfort. Food was my love.
I was just living to die
You get so ashamed at a certain point when you should want to be the typical girl who wants to go shopping. I lost a lot of years with friendship because I just secluded myself from people.
I was scared to death to just even be myself. Because you get the look— and you are automatically judged for your weight.
The moment I realized I need to make a change was when the doctors put it into perspective how this could just be deadly.
I mean, it wasn’t a matter of me having a weight problem anymore. It was a matter of what it’s going to do to me in the long run.
At that point, I was just living to die.
Climbing my ‘mountains’
It wasn’t until I saw 300 on the scale that I really got serious.
That’s when I really got into the nutrition side and saw that meats and veggies and healthy nuts… that’s where I was truly going to impact my life, by changing my diet.
I slowly started walking. When I started, I would walk to the end of the block and back, and to me, I was climbing mountains.
On every walk, I was almost dying but I did it!
And it was every day. I just did my walk and when I realized I wasn’t dying any more at the end of the block, I went around the block.
And then when I realized that the weight was actually coming off it just motivated me even more to keep going.
I started to crave the weirdest thing
It all boils down to this question: “what do you put in your mouth?” You know what I mean?
Everyone says that “this is the miracle, ummm…. no wait THIS is the miracle drug!”
Yeah, there’s the protein shakes and the candy bars… oh, the protein bars. And all the pills. There are so many different people saying “this works, and this works!” But those things are just not realistic in the long run.
Personal Trainer Food is so easy and realistic. And it’s simple to do, too. You can still have a social life and go to a restaurant with your friends and get a great steak and some steamed veggies and stay within the program.*
The day I realized I craved broccoli, I wanted to celebrate. I never thought that day would come! Before, it was pizza and cookies and cake. And then one day it was broccoli and I was so weirded out by that. But I loved every bit of it.
And that’s when I knew I was really changing inside. I knew it was full circle at that point!
It still sometimes is like… “holy crap, this is my life! I’m doing this?!”
Can you tell from this picture? That’s me on the left, hugging my friend at her wedding.
Today, it’s so different when I get dressed for work, or when I’m doing my hair. Now I care about little things like that.
My dream: to wear skinny jeans
In my generation, skinny jeans are the thing. I would look at other girls and I would just dream about wearing those jeans. What I could do, where I would go if I could wear that outfit?
So one day, I went to the mall. I went to a bunch of different stores and I wasn’t sure. I wasn’t there yet.
I was still wearing my clothes that were at least three sizes too big. So I didn’t know where to start. I got three different sized jeans to go into the dressing room.
I put on the first pair and they were parachute pants. I was like “OK, I don’t know where this is going yet.”
Next, I put on the second pair. And they were still too big.
At this point, I don’t think I could breathe.
So I put on the third pair and they fit perfect; and it was a one-digit number.
I just cried. I couldn’t believe it… I think I stayed in the dressing room for almost an hour. I looked in the mirror, I took a hundred pictures and I just sobbed.
I’m here for a reason!
It’s amazing when you truly start to love yourself and evolve as a person and you know?
Be the person you know you can truly be. There’s so much life to live when you allow yourself to do it.
The way I feel today is indescribable.
I live a whole new life. I’m thankful for everything I went through.
Every ounce that I weighed at one point made me who I am today.
People always say you’re put here for a reason.
I found my reason.
I want to help the entire world lose weight and get healthy in any way, shape, or form.
Let me help you, too!
My journey has led me to become the lead Weight Loss Coach right here at Personal Trainer Food.
It’s ironic. I used to love food. (Well, still do– it’s just different food!)
