Yeah, it’s been a long, cold winter– but spring is almost here! And it’s definitely time for a vacation. Here are our top 5 active, and super fun spring break destinations for you.
Jazzy New Orleans
New Orleans is full of outstanding architecture, friendly people, and great food. You’ll love the rich history and tons of things to do. The weather in the spring can’t be beat. It’s warm but not blazing hot; and the city is fragrant with magnolias, gardenias, and jasmine.
Of course you want to check out the music scene. It’s hopping everywhere! But if you’re looking for really great live music, skip Bourbon St. and head to Frenchmen St. instead. There’s a casino if gambling is your thing, and you’ll find many affordable options for hotels and dining.
The only thing missing is a beach. But really, all you have to do is jump in a car. You can be in the Gulf Coast in under two hours.
For non-gamblers, Vegas might not be the first place that comes to mind. Nonetheless, don’t skip this section! There is much more to the city than casinos.
Enjoy shopping, eating, shows, spas, and luxurious hotel swimming pools– 24/7. Vegas has something for everyone at any hour. With more than 70,000 hotel rooms, this destination is easy on the wallet. You can budget a trip that saves a few pennies and still enjoy a five-star experience.
You can get out of the casinos and into the great outdoors, too. Red Rock Canyon is just 20 minutes from Vegas and offers beautiful hiking trails. While you’re out, take some iconic snaps at Hoover Dam. It’s only 40 minutes away from the Strip. Plan a little extra time to catch the fascinating tours for both the dam and power plant while you’re there.
Hidden Gem: Clearwater, FL
Less rowdy than places like Panama City and less expensive than Miami, Clearwater is a great choice for spring break in Florida. You can lounge the afternoon away on expansive white sand beaches. Or, for something a little more active, surf the waves on a jet-ski, or get your thrills with some para-sailing.
The area also has an up and coming craft beer scene with more than 30 craft breweries along the “Gulp Coast.” Grab a brew and stroll along the 1000+ yard long Pier 60 to take in beautiful views, crafts, and entertainment.
Colorado Rocky Mountain High
Spring break isn’t just for sun bunnies! If you’re craving freshies, head over to Colorado. Snow bunnies like you will be rewarded with great skiing and awe-inspiring mountains. Stays range in choices– from the big resorts like Aspen, Steamboat Springs, and Breckenridge to the smaller ones like Arapahoe Basin and Monarch Mountain.
Get a taste of Rocky Mountain city life and head to Denver. Make sure you check out the great museums– including the Museum of Contemporary Art and Museum of Nature and Science. After the museum tours, savor the best Denver has to offer at one of their many trendy restaurants, night clubs, and live music venues.
The Other Europe: San Juan, Puerto Rico
Have you been dreaming of Europe? If you want to go but don’t have the cash, hit up San Juan instead. There’s no need for a passport, and you won’t have to exchange any money either. Old San Juan is filled with charming cobble stone streets and Technicolor colonial buildings. Fortaleza Street is lined with restaurants serving a delicious assortment of global flavors.
Soak in some of the world’s most beautiful beaches in New San Juan. You’ll find perfect scuba diving in clear waters.
Take the time to head out just an hour outside the city, too. There, you’ll discover El Yunque National Forest; the only tropical rain forest in the US National Forest System. It’s a treasure– filled with beautiful waterfalls and more than 240 different species of trees.
